Together, We Can Do Better
These are evolutionary times.
No time like the present do we sit at both the edge of major turmoil and uncertainty and, at the cusp of enormous potential and change. No time like the present encourages more focus on innovation, exploration, invention, experimentation and investment in the greatest resource: our people, than now.
Despite economic turmoil, political upheaval, inequality, climate change and all the negativity of the world we live in, great opportunity still beckons and an awareness of a better future waits to be realized.
But it’s up to us to get us there.
For the only way we can realize the bright future that awaits, is to work together. That is our responsibility and our new shared purpose.
In the beginning of time, our pioneering spirit shunned a world full of doubt. Courageous and strong, we connected the world.
We built systems and processes that grew governments, institutions and organizations that served a purpose and we exploited global resources vital to survival, transforming it into fuel for humanity.
In the beginning, it was necessary and it was right for a growing world to focus on breaking down barriers and building new bridges, but even old paradigms and old bridges need fixing and may no longer serve.
Even the natural resources we so readily consumed, may have been over-exploited and may no longer last to feed our children, and the children of our children. And so we must change.
But we can only do so by accepting responsibility for the actions we have taken and accepting the power we have to make a difference, no matter how small we think that difference will be.
The first step to change, is to realize that our actions together have brought us to this place of lack and deficiency. That we may have taken too much and not given anything in return. That we may have placed too much emphasis on external wants and not enough on internal needs. That we isolated ourselves from each other and from this green earth, when we have always been connected. That we continue to believe we are not worthy of greatness when we are already great. These are all the things that have plotted us on our current destructive path and will continue to do so, unless we fight for a new direction.
For we, collectively, have the power to shape a better today, inside and out. A today that values the things that make us uniquely special beings, our collective and inherent humanity.
For it is our collective ability to value respect, integrity, knowledge, compassion, tolerance, respect for earth, and love, that separates us from the rest of the species on this earth.
And that is worth saving, but we must face fear head-on and resist being entrenched in our old paradigms if we desire to move forward.
Do not be tempted into extreme conservatism or extreme traditionalism or extremism in any form because you’re terrified of what the future may hold. We’re all terrified.
Do not get stuck fighting change because you’re scared.
Do not spend your days mocking good, important progress because you fear it.
Do not waste time trying to turn back the sands of time-it is impossible.
Instead, acknowledge your fears, like the rest of us and understand change is inevitable.
Recognize there will always come a time for change and that time is now.
And you can help, but choose wisely. You can help shape a future of good change, or you can retreat into fear and block progress.
It’s up to you, for we all have a part to play.
But know, together, we can do better. Together, in a million small ways, we can shape a better world.
The choice, as always, is yours to make, so choose wisely. Learn to trust yourself and you will know which choice to make.
Cheers, to the present and future. ~ CJ
